Will McLean's commonplace book blog

http://willscommonplacebook.blogspot.com.au/

Will McLean has collected a big range of texts and discussions. I greatly admire his blog. One of his pearls was posted in January this year. It is a text called Modus armandi milites ad torneamentum. from 1333. It is one hundred years before our time of interest, though it shows practices that were in place prior to the 1440s.

'Ad Hastiludia: aketoun, haubert, gambisoun, quod fit de panno serico et consimilibus, si sit preciosum, nuelere ke sunt plates de ascer, sicut bacyn et galea'
In English
'For Jousts: aketon, hauberk, and gambeson, which is made of silken cloth and the like, and can be so costly that the steel plates, basinet and helmet are as nothing in comparison.'

The blog also details the following deeds of arms within our period of interest, and many more outside.
